First August Walk
August 7 @ 10:15 am - 4:00 pm
Terry Synnott and Nigel Judd have planned the August 2018 walks for Tuesday the 7th and Wednesday the 22nd.
The 1015 start is from the car parking area on the side of the road on the northern outskirts of Penshurst (NGR 526438).
Morning distance is 3.5 miles to the lunch stop at The Spotted Dog, 6 Smarts Hill, Penshurst, TN11 8EG (NGR 523419) and after lunch a further 2.2 miles are required to complete the loop back to the cars.
The Spotted Dog is an interesting old pub and if it is a fine day we shall try for tables on the rear balcony from which there is a good view out towards the Medway.
This is pretty much a flat walk. There is a short upward section in the middle of the morning route also involving some steps, but not too difficult. Immediately before and after the pub we use short sections of rather narrow paths which were overgrown when walked in May and so best to avoid shorts and a stick would be useful. There is only one stile on the whole route and that is in the afternoon section and is a reasonably easy one, albeit not in very good condition.
