Chris’s talk relates to the origins and history of hops, the great tales and unique traditions of the English industry, and of those treasured memories that will soon be confined to history. He will tell tales of the thousands of Londoners who came down every year to pick hops by hand and the appalling conditions in which they worked and lived in. He will also tell of why Oast Houses are round and some square and give an insight as to why Kent was known as the “Garden of Eden”. A not to be missed insight into our local history of a bygone age.
